Men's Cross Country Sixth At WAC Championship

Honolulu, Hawaii -- San Jose State men's cross country finished in sixth place at the Western Athletic Conference Championship in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 29.

Juan Ruiz was the Spartans' top finisher for the second time this season, finishing the 8K course in 27:31.2 good for 27th place.

Senior Sterling Granger was next coming in 34th place with a time of 28:12.7.

Kellen Cole (28:13.4) in 35th place, Ansel Mills (28:48.0) in 41st place and Alex Esparza (29:05.9) in 43rd place rounded out the scorers for San Jose State.

"It's a disappointing result for the team," said Spartans' head coach Augie Argabright. "Our guys worked hard all season long and just had a tough ending."

Utah State is the 2011 WAC champion and has now secured the trophy in six of the last seven seasons.  Brian McKenna helped the Aggies achieve victory with his first place individual performance. He was one of three runners inside the top-five for Utah State.

Also competing for the Spartans: freshman Mueen Ghoury who battled sickness and finished in 44th place (29:23.0), Hector Lopez-Garcia (45th place, 29:35.5) and Antonio Cantu (46th place, 29:35.6).
