Spartans Sixth At WAC Championship

Moscow, Ida. - San Jose State men's cross country finished sixth out of seven teams at the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Championship on October 30, in Moscow, Idaho.

The Spartans, led by seniors Alfredo Coronado and Alan Shelton, totaled 189 points ahead of seventh place Louisiana Tech with 195.

Boise State won the championship with a final score of 57, ahead of New Mexico State (66) and five time defending champion Utah State (67).

Coronado finished the 8K course in 25.50.72 for 26th place overall. Shelton followed with a time of 26:58.04, good for 36th.

"Alfredo and Allan both ran good races for us today," said Spartans head coach Augie Argabright. "They were right there with everybody else, but it just wasn't our day. It Happens. "

Irvin Garcia (45, 27:14.49), Sterling Granger (46, 27:26.61) and Luke Galvan (53, 27:50.58) rounded out San Jose State's top-five scorers.

It was the first WAC Championship for three Spartans: Kellen Cole, Juan Ruiz and Hector Lopez-Garcia, who came in 56, 57 and 59th respectively.

"This was a small field of some really talented runners," Argabright said. "We ran pretty well as a team, but it's tough to get everyone to click on the same day."

This race concludes the 2010 men's cross country season for San Jose State as a team. The winner, Boise State, will represent the WAC at the NCAA West Regional in two weeks.
