Men's Cross Country Ninth At WAC Championship

Ruston, La. -- San Jose State University came in ninth place at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship in Ruston, La., on October 27.

The Spartans totaled 257 points as a team on the 8,000-meter course. 2012 WAC champion University of Texas-Arlington won the event with a team score of 48.

Mueen Ghoury crossed the finish line first for San Jose State in 48th place with a time of 26:29.96. Nicholas Sherrell followed in 53rd place with a time of 27:20.59. Alexander Selevos in 60th place finished in 28:30.67 and Matthew Stephens was 67th with a time of 29:41.41.

Imran Zaman in 68th place rounded out the scorers for the Spartans. He completed the race in 30:28.64.

“This was tough for us,” said San Jose State head coach Ron Davis. “I like the effort that I saw from everybody. It was consistent all season long.”

Also competing for the Spartans: Garrick Chan (30:30.51, 69th place) and Brandon Jauregui (31:59.49, 70th place.)

Seattle University's Erik Barkhaus took medalist honors with a winning time of 24:02.90.

"I've had a great time with the team this year," said Davis. "The team tried hard all year."
