The San Jose State men's and women's cross country teams will be competing in the Western Athletic Conference Championship this Saturday, October 31.
The men's 8K race will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the women's 5K at 10:45 a.m. Both will be held at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno, Nevada.
Junior transfer Alfredo Coronado has led the Spartan men's team throughout the season with three top-ten finishes. In the Bronco open on October 17, Coronado finished fourth place overall in a field that contained three other WAC schools.
"I expect Alfredo to lead the way for our men's team in this race," said head coach Augie Argabright. "He may not be the favorite to win the race, but I think he has a decent shot at the title. I also expect team captain, and lone senior David Haefele to have the team mentally focused and ready to execute the race plan."
Senior Nisha Richardson was a big part of helping the women's team to four top-five performances in 2009. Coach Argabright says with a good finish in the WAC Championship, she could be an All-WAC selection.
"This is the race that we have focused on all season long," Argabright said. "The competition will be tough, but we are excited to race our conference rivals. For our seniors, it is their last chance to race in a WAC Championship, and we expect them to be very focused."
