Cross Country Goes For WAC Championship

The San Jose State men's and women's cross country teams are heading to Ruston, La., for the 2012 Western Athletic Conference Championship held this Saturday, October 27.

"This is what we've been working toward all season long," said San Jose State head coach Ron Davis. "The athletes ran well in the last race and have kept the momentum up in practice."

Both Spartan teams were voted seventh out of nine teams in the Pre-Championship Cross Country Coaches Poll. The coaches ranked Utah State first in the men's race with four first-place votes and the Idaho with six first-place votes was ranked first in the women's race.

San Jose State's most recent event was the Bronco Invitational on October 13 where the men finished ninth out of 17 and the women were fifth out of 21. That day, there were eight season-best 5,000-meter times set by the women and five season-best 8,000-meters times run by the men.

The women's championship lineup has: Rebecca Garcia, Marissa Buckley, Lalida Maokhamphiou, Allison Kimura, Alexandra Seda, Joanna Reyes and Breanna Garcia.

The men's championship lineup has: Matthew Stephens, Mueen Ghoury, Alexander Selevos, Nicholas Sherrell, Garrick Chan, Brandon Jauregui and Imran Zaman.

The 5,000-meter women's race begins at 9:00 a.m. CST followed by the men's 8,000-meter run at 10:00 a.m.
