Spartan men capture second place at Gator Invitational

at the Gator Invitational
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.-----The San Jose State University men’s cross country
team placed second at the Gator Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 6. The Spartans
placed three men in the top-10.

The Spartans came in second place with an overall score of 53 points on the
8,000 meter course. Fresno State finished first with 22, while Santa Clara
placed third with 60 points.

Senior Matt Heard placed third with a time of 26:08.2. Senior Will Crane set
a personal record, with his time of 26:20.9, placing fifth. Also placing in
the top-10 was junior Jesse McLeod, placing ninth, with a time of 26:40.1.

"Our first five runners did extremely well, all finishing under 28:00," said
Heard. "We were close to Fresno State, and we're looking forward to beating
them at the conference meet."

Head coach Augie Argabright was very impressed with the team. "Since we've
started men's cross country again at this school, this was our best race
ever as a team. Seniors Matt Heard and Will Crane have proven that they will
be all-WAC contenders."

The Spartans will race again, Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Santa Clara
Invitational in Belmont, Calif.
