Coronado Leads Spartans in Bronco Open

Sunnyvale, Calif.---The San Jose State men's cross country team was again led by junior Alfredo Coronado, who finished fourth overall at the 2009 Bronco open.

The 8K Invitational race consisted of 15 teams of which the Spartans finished tenth with a total score of 259.

Coronado finished the 8K course through Baylands Regional Park in 24:41. He finished first for San Jose State for the fourth time in five races this season. Irvin Garcia (25:36) was the Spartans next finisher, coming in 50th place.

Senior David Haefele (26:00), Jonathan Gragert (26:33), and Alan Shelton (26:35) rounded out the five scorers for San Jose State.

Today Alfredo gave us one of the best individual performances in many years," said head coach Augie Argabright. "He was right there until the very end, and his performance made another case for being a top contender for the WAC title."

Also in today's race were San Jose State's conference rivals: Fresno State (2nd of 15), Boise State (3rd of 15), and New Mexico State (7th of 15). This was the Spartans' final regular season meet in 2009. They will face these same conference opponents in their next competition, the WAC Championship on October 31 in Reno, Nevada.
