Spartan Men Run At Santa Clara

Santa Clara, Calif. The San Jose State University men’s cross country team finished in 13th place at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Saturday, October 13.

The Spartans were led by Chris Hart’s 65th place finish.  His time of 26:14.00 was his second-best career 8K time, finishing seven seconds behind his career mark he previously set at the Pepperdine Invitational earlier this season.

Luke Galvan and Sean Dundon rounded out the top-three Spartan finishers with 76th and 78th place-finishes.  Galvan’s time of 26:21.00 set a new personal-best for the highly-touted freshmen, while Dundon’s 26:23.00 was his second-best career 8K time.

The Spartan men took 13th in the 17-team race.  In preparation for the WAC Championship, the Spartan men faced two opponents they will run against in two weeks.  Boise State took eighth place overall, while the Aggies of New Mexico State finished four spots behind the SJSU in 17th place.

Brendan Gregg, an unattached runner, finished with a time of 24:36.00 to take the individual title, while Long Beach State had two runners in the top-five to win the team title.

Although the Spartans competed against Santa Clara in the Bronco Invitational, the winner of the two “Rivalry Series” points will be determined at the NCAA Regional Championship in Eugene, Oregon, on November 10.

The next race will be the WAC Championship in Logan, Utah, on October 13.  Last season, Sam Wambugu finished 14th, earning a second-team All-WAC honors.
