San Francisco, Calif.---The San Jose State men's cross country team finished 10th out of the 12 teams in the 2009 San Francisco State Invitational.
Luke Galvan (47), Antonio Cantu (88), Alex Esparza (92), Carlos Chavez (95), and Jonathan Gragert (98) were the five scorers for the Spartans, totaling 276 points.
Galvan ran the 8K course through Speedway Meadows in 27:08.2, and was San Jose State's top finisher. Sophomore Antonio Cantu (28:30.1) followed with an 88th place finish for San Jose State.
"Luke gave his best effort today, and proved that he is a leader on our team", said head coach Augie Argabright. "We are proud of the way he performed in today's event."
Alex Esparza (28:49.1), Carlos Chavez (29:08.3), and Jonathan Gragert (29:20.9) rounded out the top-five finishers for San Jose State.
The University of Alaska Anchorage took first place overall, as Marko Cheseto (24:52.6), and Micah Chelimo (24:55.0) took first and second place overall individually.
The San Jose State men's cross country team will be back in action Saturday, October 17 at the Bronco Invitational.
