Denver, Colo. San Jose State University’s Mobin Ghoury has been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s cross country “Athlete of the Week” for his performance at the San Francisco State Gator Invitational on October 7.
Ghoury, a 2005 first-team All-WAC selection, ran the 8K course in 26:39, a season’s best for the Spartan team. Ghoury finished in 23rd place (13th among collegiate runners), for his third top-25 finish in 2006, and eighth of his career. Ghoury led the Spartans to a fourth place finish over conference rival Fresno State. It was the third time the Spartan men finished in fourth-place in 2006, after finishing fourth or higher once in the previous two seasons.
Fresno State runner, Marissa McPhail, earned the WAC “Player of the Week” for female cross country runners, for her performance at the San Francisco State Invitational.
Next up for the Spartans is the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Saturday, October 14. It will be the final race for the Spartans before they compete at the WAC Championships on October 28, in Fresno, Calif.
