Men's cross country finishes fourth at Gator Invitational

San Francisco, Calif. - The San Jose State University men’s cross country team continued to show progress this season, taking fourth place at the San Francisco State 8K Gator Invitational on Saturday, October 7.

The finish was the third time the Spartans placed fourth in 2006. In the previous two seasons, the Spartans finished in fourth place or higher only once.

Mobin Ghoury led the Spartans with a 23rd-place effort in a time of 26:39. This was the third top-25 finish for Ghoury in 2006, and the eighth of his Spartan career.

The Spartans also received strong performances by Jose Burrola-Diaz and Christopher Hart. Burrola-Diaz turned in a personal-best time of 27:10 to come in 32nd, while Hart had both his best time and finish as a Spartan, taking 34th with a time of 27:12.

In preparation for the Western Athletic Conference Championship on October 28, the Spartans had a strong showing against their league rival, Fresno State, which finished in sixth place. Chico State won the team competition with 21 points, followed by Humboldt State with 70 points and host San Francisco State with 90 points.

Next up for San Jose State is the Santa Clara University Bronco Invitational on Saturday, October 14. Although the Spartans will be running against the Broncos in Santa Clara, the results will not count toward the official “Rivalry Series” between the schools.  The points will be determined on a neutral course, on Saturday, November 11, at the NCAA West Regional Championships in Portland, Ore.
