Both the men's and women's cross country team will represent San Jose State at the 2009 San Francisco State Invitational this Friday, October 9 at 4:00 p.m.
For the women, it will be the first 6K race of the 2009 season. Head coach Augie Argabright plans on using his entire lineup on the women's side, and is feeling confident about their chances in the event.
"This should be a good test for our team over this 6K distance course. We have our entire lineup going in this one, and I expect them to be in the hunt for victory."
The men are coming off of a sixth place finish out of 19 at the Charles Bowles Invitational last Saturday, October 4. They were led by junior Alfredo Coronado who earned his second top-10 finish in three races.
Though Coronado has proven to be a leader, Argabright will continue to look for others to step up in the upcoming San Francisco State event.
"We may rest some of our usual runners because of our recent schedule, and that will provide others on our team the chance to step up," said Argabright. "I'm looking forward to finding out who is going to step up for us.
2008 SF State Invite: The women's team finished in third place out of 11 schools with a total score of 80. They were led by Elizabeth Raymond who was one of six Spartans to finish inside the top 25. Four of those six, including Raymond are returning to compete again in this years race.
The men placed third out of eight with 115 points in last years SF State Invitational. David Haefele, then a junior, was the Spartan's top finisher coming in 12th place.
