Men's Cross Country 28th At Stanford Invite

Stanford, Calif. -- San Jose State University came in 28th place out of 29 at the Stanford Invitational on September 29.


Matthew Stephens led the Spartans running the 8,000-meter course on the Stanford Golf Course in 27:02. Stephens finished in 143rd place. 


Nicholas Sherrell was the second San Jose State runner to cross the line in 28:35.


Garrick Chan (29:26) in 181st, Brandon Jauregui (30:00) in 185th and Alexander Selevos (30:17) in 190th rounded out the scorers for the Spartans.


"I thought the team tried hard today," said San Jose State head coach Ron Davis. "We just have to keep improving in our workouts."


Also competing for the Spartans: Imran Zaman (191st, 32:19).


#9-ranked Stanford won the race with a team score of 34. John Gilbertson of Master's College took individual medalist honors with a time of 24:07.


San Jose State is back in action on October 5 at the Crystal Springs Invitational in Belmont, Calif.
