Spartans Finish 14th At UC Riverside Invite

Riverside, Calif.---San Jose State men's cross country finished in 14th place as a team in the field of 25 schools at the 2010 UC Riverside open on September 18.

     The Spartans finished with a total score of 352, good for 14th place in a field of 25 schools and over 400 individual participants. #16-BYU walked away from the Invitational as the champions, and their own Miles Batty (23:52.5) took first place as an individual.

     Alfredo Coronado was the San Jose State's top individual finisher coming in eighth place. He finished the 8K dirt course in 24.24.2, a time which head coach Augie Argabright called, "One of the better time we've seen in several years."

     Irvin Garcia (25:43.3) and Sterling Granger (25:44.7) finished in 73rd and 75th place respectively. Then, Alan Shelton (26:51.5), and Luke Galvan (26:59.0) rounded out the scorers for San Jose State in 113th and 117th.

    "Today wasn't our best performance but we had a lot of bright spots," said Argabright following the race. "Alfredo ran a great race, and I'm proud of our team for competing well in one of the toughest fields."

      The team will continue their season next Saturday September 25 in Memphis, Tennessee at the Memphis Twilight Classic.
