Men's cross country finishes fourth at Aggie Invitational

Davis, Calif. - The San Jose State University men’s cross country team finished in fourth place at the 10-team UC Davis Aggie Invitational on September 9. The Spartans' fourth-place finish ties their best finish from 2005.

For the second consecutive week, the Spartans had strong performances by their freshmen, Jonathan Gragert and David Haefele. Gragert led the Spartans with a time of 26:56.10 for a 22nd-place finish. Haefele clocked a time of 27:09.60 for a 25th-place finish. The Spartan captain, Mobin Ghoury, also turned in a strong performance, placing 23rd with a time of 27:05.20.

Finishing fourth, the Spartan men continued their progression from a year ago, where they finished in eighth place at the 2005 Aggie Invitational. With 118 points, the Spartans beat out Notre Dame de Namur by nine points. Stanford won the overall team event with 24 points. Host school UC Davis finished second with 38 points, while California finished third with 65 points.

The Spartan men will look to continue their recent success when they split their team for two meets. The Spartan “A” team will race on September 29 at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind., while the Spartan “B” team will compete in the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif., on September 30.
