Alfredo Coronado Named WAC Athlete Of The Week

Denver, Colo.---San Jose State's Alfredo Coronado has been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for the week of August 30-September 5.

     Coronado, a senior from Santa Clarita, California took first place individually by nearly a full minute at the September 4, Battle of the Bay cross country meet.

     Coronado finished the 4.2 mile race hosted in Belmont, California in 21:06, and finished 58 seconds ahead of second place finisher and teammate, Sterling Granger.

     The first place individual effort helped San Jose State to a team victory at the Battle of the Bay which had a field of six total schools.

     "Alfredo is a man with a mission," said Spartans' head coach Augie Argabright. "He showed it from the very beginning with this performance in the season opener. He's extremely motivated for continued success throughout the year, and in the WAC Championship later this fall."

     Other nominees for the award included: Markus Geiger, Idaho; Ian Ruybalid, New Mexico State; and Brian McKenna, Utah State.
