Men's Cross Country Third At USF Invitational

     San Francisco Calif.---- The San Jose State men's cross country team scored 90 points and finished in third place in a field of nine schools at the USF invitational in San Francisco, California on Saturday.

     The scoring runners for the Spartans: Alfredo Coronado (5), David Haefele (17), Irvin Garcia (18), Sterling Granger (20), Alan Shelton (30), combined for a total score of 90.

     Coronado was the Spartan's top finisher with a time of 25:23.10, good for sixth, and Irvin Garcia finished third for San Jose State and 23rd overall with a time of 26:08.80.  Sterling Granger ran a 26:17.60, which rounded out the top 25 for the event. The USF Invitational was the first event for all three in a Spartan uniform,

     "I am very pleased with the performance of our entire squad.  Alfredo, Irvin, and Sterling had an outstanding debut for the Spartans. Team Captain David Haefele also ran a superb race. This could be the best team we have had in some time," said head coach Augie Argabright.

     Senior David Haefele ran a 26:00.20 in the 8K event, earning him 19th place overall and the Spartans second finisher.

     Only the event winning University of California and event host University of San Francisco finished ahead of San Jose State on Saturday in the field of eight schools.

     San Jose State's next event will be on Saturday, September 19, at the UC Riverside Invitational in Riverside California.
