The San Jose State men's and women's cross country team begin their season under new head coach Ron Davis on Saturday, September 1 at the USF Invitational in San Francisco, Calif.
The women's 5K race will begin at 9:30 a.m. on the Speedway Meadow Course through Golden Gate Park followed by the men's 8K at 10:15.
"We're all really looking forward to getting this season started," Davis said. "Our coaching staff is ready and the student-athletes have been working hard in practice for this day."
The Spartans will be joined in both races by five other Bay Area programs including: California, Stanford, San Francisco, Saint Mary's and Santa Clara.
Stanford placed fifth at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships and begins the season ranked No. 9 in the country by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association.
San Jose State returns two runners to the men's team in Kellen Cole and Mueen Ghoury, while the women have 11 coming back. Mallory Davenport, Jenay Jouregui, Lalida Maokhamphiou and Shelby Soladar make up the group of freshman.
"This will be the first meet for me after returning home here to San Jose State," added Davis. "We're ready to start taking steps forward starting Saturday."
