Men's Cross Country Finishes Sixth

BELMONT, Calif.----The San Jose State University Men’s cross country team finished sixth at the Bronco Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 30, at Crystal Springs.

The Spartans’ team total was 171. Stanford won the race with a perfect score of 15, while Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, placed second with 45 points in the 8km race.

"This was the first time that these guys had ever raced this distance," said head coach Augie Argabright. "They did pretty well and will improve as the season progresses."

Victor Ortiz was the top Spartan finisher placing 25th with a time of 27:49. Teammate Mobin Ghouri was close behind Ortiz placing 27th with a time of 27:53.

Jon Pierce, running for Stanford, was first with a 24:51 clocking.

"I was very impressed with Victor and Mobin," said Argabright. "They went to junior high school together and they showed the competitiveness that it takes to be at this level."
