San Francisco, Calif. The San Jose State University men’s cross country team opened the season in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on Saturday, August 30.
The Spartans finished sixth as a team in the men’s 8K race at the 16th annual USF Invitational.
Spartan junior David Haefele clocked the team’s fastest time and placed 19th overall with a 26:16.90. Sean Dundon, a senior, ran the second-quickest time for the Spartans. He placed 31st overall with a time of 26:36.90, which marks the third consecutive year that he has lowered his time at this event.
Sophomore Alan Shelton finished with the third fastest time for the Spartans, one spot behind Dundon in 32nd place, with a time of 26:40.20. David Blausey turned in a time of 26:57.70. He was the fourth fastest Spartan and 42nd overall. Blausey lowered his time over last year by more than 90 seconds, when he clocked a 28:41.10.
Freshman Cameron Duran finished as the fifth fastest Spartan. He completed his first collegiate race in 27:07.50, which was good for 45th place.
The Spartans return to action on September 13, when they compete in the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic in Memphis, Tenn.
