Cross Country Opens Season At USF Invitational

The San Jose State University men’s and women’s cross country teams take to the starting line for their first meet of the season this Saturday, August 30, in the 16th annual University of San Francisco Cross Country Invitational.

The women’s team will compete in the 5k at 9:15 a.m. and the men will follow with the 8k event at 10 a.m.

Sophomore Luke Galvan returns as the Spartans' top finisher from last year’s invitational, having placed seventh in the 8k with a time of 26:28.30, leading the team to a third-place spot.

Back for her fourth season, senior and 2008 team captain Jenna Hicks is the squad's top returning runner in the 5k a year ago finishing with a career-best seventh.

Both races will be held in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.
