SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San José State University men’s cross country team will be competing in the ninth annual Distance Carnival track and field meet, hosted by San Francisco State on Friday, April 1.

Over 1,700 athletes from schools in 29 states, including teams from Mexico and Canada are expected to compete at San Francisco State’s Cox Stadium, including five Spartans.

Huruy Zeratsion will start the day off for San José State, running in the 1500m.  The sophomore will be running in heat 7 which is scheduled to start at 1:11 p.m. PT on April 1st.

Craig Huff will follow with the 3000m steeplechase.  Huff will be running unattached in heat #2, which is expected to start at 2:17 p.m.

Ben Branagh, Jose Piña and Raul Rodarte round out the Spartan competitors by running the 5000m.  Branagh will be in heat 1 with the expected start time at 4:07 p.m.  Piña’s heat 2 race will start at 4:42 p.m., followed by Rodarte’s heat 4 at 5:52 p.m.

“It should be an exciting meet for our men’s team.  The guys got into some fast races and they have been training well and are ready to compete,” said cross country coach Brad Wick.  “Both Ben and Jose have a chance to run times this season that could get them to the first round of the NCAA Championships and the 5000 this Friday will be the first step in that process.”
