San Jose, Calif. - The San José State University men’s cross country team competed in last Saturday’s Hornet Invitational track and field meet on the campus of Sacramento State. It was the first of seven events the student-athletes will have the chance to compete in this semester.

Some of the team will run unattached and another group, who have already used a redshirt, will run in our uniform,” said cross country head coach Brad Wick. “At the Hornet Invitational the guys all ran the 1,500, but starting with the Distance Carnival (3/31-4/1) they will move into their specialties. We will have a couple of guys running 5Ks, a couple running the steeplechase and a couple repeating the 1,500.”

“This season I’m looking for everyone to get a better personal-best time, so that in the future we can get them to bigger and better races. Getting into the best fields requires the best times and in order to get those times, you have to run among better competition. Our focus is to achieve those better times to score in the conference and qualify for the first round of Nationals.”
