San Jose, Calif. - San Jose State men’s cross country head coach Augie Argabright announced the signing of two junior college athletes, Alfredo Coronado and Irvin Garcia, to national letters of intent on Friday. Coronado and Garcia will join the team in fall 2009.
“We are very excited to have signed such outstanding student-athletes,” said Argabright. “Both Alfredo and Irvin have the ability to place well in every race for us.”
Coronado transfers from College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Calif., where he finished second in the 1500-meters at the CCCAA Championships with a personal best of 3:53.80. That mark earned him All-America honors in 2008.
“Alfredo has the ability to be all-conference and challenge for the WAC individual title,” Argabright said. “We really think that he will be a perfect fit for our team.”
Garcia, running for coach Mark Covet at Antelope Valley College, posted personal best times of 4:15.29 (1,500 m), 9:08.28 (3,000 m) and 15:20.57 (5,000 m).
“Irvin is a great young man, and he fits right in with our athletes,” Argabright said. “He will be one of the best runners on our team and in the WAC.”
