Men's Cross Country Signs Two For 2012

High school league champion Brandon Jauregui of Saugus, Calif., and 1500-meter track and field champion Jose Lezama of Lawndale, Calif., have signed a National Letter-of-Intent to compete for the San Jose State men's cross country team beginning in 2012.

Jauregui competed for the cross country team at San Francisco State during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. He ran a total of eight races in his career there with a personal best 8K time of 26:39 in the 2010 CCAA Championships. 

Jauregui was a first-team all-league selection in both cross country and track and field at Saugus High School. He was a four-time first-team All-Santa Clara Valley honoree and helped the Centurions to three consecutive Foothill League championships(2006-08). He was also a first-team selection as a long distance track runner in 2008 and 2009 and helped his team to a league championship victory in '09. 

Lezama competed in eight races during his freshman year at El Camino College in 2009, finishing six of them inside the top-ten. Two of those top-tens were victories in back-to-back weeks at the Orange Coast Classic (9/18) and the Golden West Invitational (9/25). He finished in 15th place out of 219 in the 2009 CCCAA Cross Country Championship and had a career best 24:59.0 8K time. 

He also competed on El Camino's track and field team where his career was highlighted by victories at the 2011 CCCAA Championships in the 1500-meter (4:04.81) and 3,000-meter (8:54.18) events.

Lezama competed in back-to-back CIF State Championships as a junior and a senior at Leuzinger High School. Both times Lezama finished in tenth place and in his second state competition in 2008, set a personal 5K record time of 15:24.00.
