FRESNO, Calif. - The San José State University men's cross country team finished third overall Friday morning at Woodward Park in the Fresno State Invitational.

The Spartans were led by sophomore Ben Branagh, who completed the 6k course with a time of 18:38 placing second in the field of 57 for the lowest finish of his career. Branagh finished first among collegiate competitors, as Luis Luna, running unattached, won with a time of 18:37.

Josue Gonzalez, Jannik Ernst and Matthew Stephens gave San José State four runners in the top 20. The trio following Branagh finished the course with times of 18:56, 19:01, and 19:29.90, respectively.

"Josue also had a very solid race for the men," said men's cross country assistant coach Brad Wick. "Team-wise, we finished behind a couple teams we need to beat. With the season just getting started, we have a lot of training to do and will look to make some nice improvements by the conference meet."

San José State will be back in action on Saturday, September 27 when it competes in the Stanford Invitational.
