San Jose, Calif.--- Jacob Mercep, the true freshman from Croatia, has earned his second Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week honor for his performance at the Gary Troyer Tournament. Mercep led the tournament with 17 goals in three games to earn the Spartans their highest mid-season national ranking in program history at No.16.
His 20 points helped San José State to a 3-1 weekend with wins over No.15 Cal Baptist, Chapman, and No.22 Whittier. The only loss came from No.6 UC Irvine.
Mercep scored nine goals on 12 shots against the 15th ranked Lancers to set a San José State single game record with 10 points total in the match. The freshman also scored six goals on eight shots against 22nd ranked Whittier. He finished the tournament with a .739 shot percentage.
This season, no player has scored more goals in the Golden Coast Conference than Jacob Mercep. He has 56 goals, and 67 total points.
