Los Angeles, Calif. ---- The San Jose State men's water polo team was unable to maintain leads against the Concordia Eagles and Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens as the Spartans (2-14, 0-2 MPSF) drop both matches in the second day of the SoCal Invitational on Sunday, October 11.

Pomona-Pitzer 8, San Jose State 7

Leading 4-2 at the midway point, San Jose State couldn't hold onto the lead in the fourth quarter as the Sagehens defeat the Spartans, 8-7.

Scoring San Jose State's only goal in the opening period was Igor Miljan as the Sagehens (7-10, 0-0 SCIAC) took a 2-1 lead. The Spartans rallied back, going on a 3-0 run in the second period with goals by Tyler Jamieson, Blake Grove and Alek Dendall to capture the lead.

Adding three goals in the third for the Spartans were Vladimir Kazanskiy and Scott Reynolds with Jamieson grabbing his second goal in the fourth quarter.

Goalkeepers Adam Sandor and Cole Williams split the time in the cage for the Spartans. Sandor had two saves in the first half and Williams made three saves after the break.

Concordia 10, San Jose State 8

Securing a 7-5 lead at the end of the third period, the Spartans allowed five goals in the final period as the Concordia Eagles went on to win 10-8.

Concordia's (3-10, 0-0 WWPA) Matthew Lange scored the first goal of the match with a minute left in the opening period. Ten seconds later John Moon answered back for the Spartans to tie the contest 1-1.

Picking up goals from Miljan, Reynolds and Justin Contreras, San Jose State trailed 5-4 at halftime. Contreras led the Spartans with three goals in the match, adding two more third and fourth periods. Reynolds and Miljan had two goals each against the Eagles.

Matej Matijevic had 10 saves in the cage for the Spartans.

The Spartans return to the SJSU Aquatic Center for a double header on Sunday, October 18, against the No. 1-ranked UCLA Bruins at 2:00 p.m. and Connecticut College Camels at 5 p.m. Admission to both matches are free for students and the public.
