Sanfilippo named team "MVP" at soccer awards banquet

The team "MVP" Frank Sanfilippo
will return next season.
Sanfilippo, an attacking midfielder, was asked to shift roles and anchor the Spartan defense this season. He orchestrated a defense that allowed just 1.29 goals per game, played 16 games decided by one goal and 10 overtime decisions. Sanfilippo, a senior with one season of playing eligibility available, will return to the Spartan line up next season.

"Frank was hands down our best player and should have been an All-American," notes Spartan head coach Gary St. Clair. "I’m glad he will be back next season. We should be healthier and our young players will have more experience. I expect even better thing from him next season."

Chang led the team with five goals and three assists. Another player asked to shift his position, Chang moved from a flank midfielder to the forward spot. He was able to open up scoring opportunities with his speed and kept the opposing defense on their toes.

Gonzalez is a freshman who scored over 100 goals in his high school career. He was able to pick up the college game quickly notching four goals and an assist this season.

Masaniai is a top-notch defender with quick feet and a strong defensive mind. He shared the backfield with Sanfilippo and fellow sophomore Richard Halvorsen.
