Hiroki Akiyama Earns NSCAA Academic Honor

San Jose, Calif. - San Jose State University men's soccer player Hiroki Akiyama has earned 2006 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas College Scholar All-Far West Region honorable mention.

Akiyama, a sophomore midfielder from Muroran, Hokkaido, Japan, has a 3.60 GPA in kinesiology. He finished the 2006 season tied for the team lead in total points with eight, from three goals and two assists. Two of his goals were game-winners, at home against Saint Mary’s and at UNLV. Akiyama led the Spartans in shots with 40 and in shots on goal with 15. He was one of just three players to start all 18 games.

This is the third academic honor of Akiyama’s San Jose State career. He also earned MPSF All-Academic selection following the 2005 season, and was recently named a 2005-06 San Jose State University “Scholar-Athlete.”
