Dec. 6, 2017

Senior women’s swimmer Colleen Humel and junior men’s goalkeeper David Heredia are the November Spartan Foundation Student-Athletes of the Month, presented by O’Connor Hospital.
Humel swam in four races: 100 and 200 backstroke and 200 and 400 medley relays at the Cinncinnati Bearcat Midseason Invitational. She won all four races helping the Spartans to a second place team finish among five schools. The senior from Chicopee, Mass., set seven pool records during the meet at the Keating Aquatic Center. Her winning time of 1:56.96 in the 200 backstroke was a season-best and a NCAA Championship B cut mark.
Heredia recorded three shutouts during the month of November when the Spartan men’s soccer team made its run to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament title match. He made three saves in the WAC Tournament semifinal against #12-ranked Air Force. The junior from San Jose, Calif., was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week after having five saves in one week on the way to a pair of shutouts over Incarnate Word and UTRGV. Heredia’s performances helped the Spartans to their first three-match winning streak since 2012.
The Spartan Foundation Student-Athletes of the Month are presented by O’Connor Hospital, the proud official healthcare sponsor of the San José State Spartans. O’Connor and the Spartans – Together in health.
