Men's soccer shut out by CS Sacramento, 3-0

San Jose, Calif.-----Ricky Rodriguez assisted on the first score and scored an unassisted goal in the second half as CS Sacramento defeated San Jose State University, 3-0, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s soccer match.

After a scoreless first half, the Hornets (6-10-1, 5-6 MPSF) got on the scoreboard as Ryan Rhoads found the front left corner of the net at 50:42 after taking a pass from Rodriguez. CS Sacramento continued its offensive push as Eli Millan took advantage of a 2-on-1 break at the top of the box and beat Spartan goalkeeper Daniel Benton at 74:46. Rodriguez closed out the scoring converting a free kick from about 25 yards out at 79:44.

"They scored against a run. We made some adjustments and then the game got out of hand. We tried to equalize by starting to push forward, but we were exposed in the back," said San Jose State coach Gary St. Clair, who was ejected at the 63:05 mark of the second half. The Spartans also played the last 10 minutes of the game one player short after Johnny Gonzalez was issued a red card.

Matt McDougall of CS Sacramento picked up his third shutout win making four saves. CS Sacramento ended a four-game losing streak and picked up its first road win of the season. San Jose State (5-12-1, 4-7 MPS) lost its third game in a row.

The Spartans conclude the season at nationally-ranked and conference champion New Mexico, Sunday, November 14.
