The Pioneers are 10-5-3 this season, 5-4-1 in MPSF action and the fourth seed in the 2012 MPSF Men's Soccer Tournament.  DU beat Air Force last week 3-2 in Denver.

Senior Josh Wren leads the team with seven goals and has assisted on four others.  Zach Bolden, a junior, and Shannon Blake, a senior, have each found the back of the net five times.  Bolden leads his side with nine assists and 19 points.

Denver has had Oliver Brown, a sophomore, in goal for 1,528 minutes this season.  In 16 matches he has allowed 17 goals (1.00 GAA) and made 40 saves (.702 save percentage).  He has four shutout of his own, has combined on another and has posted a 8-4-3 record.

Bobby Muss is in his sixth season leading the Pioneers men's soccer program.  He had compiled a 39-39-17 record entering this season and in 2007 and 2008 was the MPSF Co-Coach and Coach of the Year, respectively.

When San Jose State fell to the Pioneers 0-4 in Denver earlier this season, it broke a tie in the overall records between the two schools.  Denver now holds an 11-10-1 advantage.  The last time the two schools met in the postseason, the Spartans came away with a 2-0 decision in the 2001 MPSF Tournament.  Prior to that it was the 1970 NCAA tournament when the sides faced off and Denver won 2-1.

Senior defender Nick Murphy has earned first-team Capital One Academic All-District VIII honors, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) membership.  For Murphy, this is the third year he has been eligible for the distinction and the third time he has been so honored.

A native of San Francisco, Calif., the four-year starter from Lowell High has a 3.93 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in physics. As one of 11 Academic All-District VIII award winners, Murphy advances to a national ballot as one of 88 candidates eligible for 2012 Academic All-America honors in men's soccer.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be enrolled at his/her current institution for at least one year, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.00 scale, be a starter or key reserve, and have a minimum of sophomore athletics standing at his/her institution.

District VIII covers schools in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, British Columbia and the Yukon.

The San Jose State Spartans return to the MPSF Tournament for the second year in a row after qualifing just once, in 2009, between 2004 and 2010.

The Spartans entered the MPSF with a bang in 2000, winning the league after posting a 20-1-1 overall record and an 8-0-0 mark in conference.  They returned to the tournament in 2001 and 2002 and won the championship again in 2003, which happens to be the last time the side qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

Last year the Spartans defeated Sacramento State 4-2 in the opening round before being defeated by then No. 1 New Mexico 3-0 in the semifinals.

With a 3-0 win over Seattle University on Saturday (11/3), San Jose State secured the #5 seed in the 2012 MPSF Tournament.  It is the second year in a row the Spartans have made the Tournament and the first time since 2002 and 2003 that they have made it in consecutive years.

Enrique Montano , netted his first goal of the year at the 28:38 mark.  Diego Ochoa bent a corner kick into the box where Montano soared above the defense and headed it to the far post.  It was his first goal of the season, Ochoa's second assist and it gave San Jose State a 1-0 lead.

The Spartans, looking for an insurance goal, got it on their first shot of the second half.  Frankie Beauchamp hit a long throughball from the left side of the field to a streaking Jonathan Salceda down the right sideline.  He turned the corner and from close on the right wing hammered the ball to the far post, at the 52:32 mark.  It was his sixth goal of the year.

Just over two minutes later Dylan Murphy, in his last game in Spartan Stadium, put San Jose State up 3-0.  Salceda, with the ball in the right corner, passed it into Murphy who was eight yards off the goal line.  He shot the ball right at the Seattle keeper who deflected it onto the near post.  It then trickled over the goal line.
