Austin, Texas - San Jose State's Nick Murphy, a senior defender on the men's soccer team, has earned first-team Capital One Academic All-District VIII honors as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) membership. For Murphy, this is the third year he has been eligible for the distinction and the third time he has been so honored.
A native of San Francisco, Calif., the four-year starter from Lowell High has a 3.93 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in physics. As one of 11 Academic All-District VIII award winners, Murphy advances to a national ballot as one of 88 candidates eligible for 2012 Academic All-America honors in men's soccer.

This year, Murphy has started each of the teams 17 games and has played every minute. He is one of five Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) players named to a 2011 Academic All-District team.
