Men's Soccer: Spartans Set School Record in 2-0 Victory Over Cal Poly

    SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The San Jose State University men's soccer team set a school record for consecutive wins in one season with a 2-0 non-conference victory at Cal Poly Wednesday night.

    The win was the 10th consecutive victory for the Spartans (17-0-1 overall), breaking a record of nine straight wins set during the 1998 season. The 10 wins follows a 1-1 tie against Stanford on Sept. 26.

    Jorge Martinez scored his 15th goal of the season in the last minute of the first half to put the Spartans in front 1-0. Martinez scored on a corner kick by Gareth Williams, who was credited with his fourth assist of the year.

    Isaias Bardales added the insurance goal in the 73rd minute on an assist from Frank Sanfilippo. The goal was the eighth of the season for Bardales. Sanfilippo has five assists.

    Chris Humphreys, who had three saves during the game, recorded his 13th combined shutout of the season. The shutout is the 17th of his career, which puts him one shutout behind the all-time leader, current SJSU head coach Gary St. Clair.

    The Spartans conclude the regular season Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. game at California. The game is part of the Cal-adidas-Legacy Classic.
