Brand named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Co-Player of the Week

Woodland, Calif. - San Jose State freshman defender Ed Brand (London, England; Elliott School) and New Mexico’s senior forward Jeff Rowland (Albuquerque, N.M.; La Cueva HS) were both honored for their offensive contributions in leading their respective teams to conference wins this past weekend.

Brand produced his first collegiate goal and San Jose State’s lone goal of the match off a penalty kick in the 106th minute of play to lift the Spartans to their first MPSF overtime win of the weekend. SJSU sits alone atop the MPSF leaderboard with 18 points and a 6-1-0 league record.

"Our backline is really what kept us in the game against Air Force," Spartan head coach Gary St. Clair said of his team's defense during their double-overtime win over the Falcons on Friday, October 28. "Ed Brand was a big part of that."

Brand has started all 16 of the Spartans' games this season, helping lead them to their 10-4-2 overall record. He joins junior forward Ismael Ibarra as the second Spartan to achieve MPSF Brine Player of the Week honors in 2005. Ibarra was selected on October 17.

Rowland put away his conference-leading 12th goal of the year to go with his second assist in a 4-0 shutout at UNLV on Saturday. This is Rowland’s second Brine Player of the Week award this season. Also nominated this week was Air Force's Brian Guyette.
