Men's soccer get win in double-overtime

SAN JOSE, Calif.—The San Jose State University men’s soccer team (1-1) needed double-overtime to record the team’s first win of the season, 1-0, over visiting CS Monterey Bay (0-3) on Friday evening at Spartan Stadium.

Both team’s played scoreless soccer through regulation and one overtime period before freshman Randy Poggio was able to score his second goal of the season in the 102nd minute off a corner kick by the Spartans’ Francisco Martinez.

The Otters’ goalkeeper Christian Matterazzi made 11 saves before surrendering the lone goal. The Spartans’ Dan Benton made two saves in the game

San Jose State out shot the Otters, 32-6, but were unable to break the scoreless tie until. For the Spartans, 13 players managed to take at least a shot with four posting two shots on goal. The Otters had four players recording a shot with just two shots on goal.

San Jose State will host CS Northridge on Sunday, Sept. 8 at Spartan Stadium with a 1:00 p.m. start.
