DENVER, Colo. - San Jose State University's men's soccer team clinched the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Mountain Division title and gave head coach Gary St. Clair his 100th career victory Friday with a 3-1 win over the University of Denver.
The Spartans broke a 1-1 tie with 6:45 left in the second half on a goal by Frank Sanfilippo, with the assist to Lars Lyssand. Jorge Martinez scored an unassisted goal about three minutes later to end the scoring.
Denver took a 1-0 lead at the 7:24 mark on a goal by Matt Harrell. San Jose State tied the score in the 38th minute on Dan Fife's penalty kick.
San Jose State is now 7-0-0 in conference play, 15-0-1 overall. The win clinches the Mountain Division title for the Spartans. Denver is in second place in the division at 4-2-0, 8-5-0 overall.
St. Clair is in his 11th season as the Spartans' head coach. His career record is now 100-96-14.
San Jose State concludes MPSF Mountain Division play Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. (MT) game at Air Force.
