Men's soccer hosts UNLV, No. 9 New Mexico

THIS WEEK

San Jose State will return home for two games this week, hosting MPSF rivals UNLV and #9 New Mexico. The match against UNLV will be at Spartan Field on Thursday, October 26, at 3:00 p.m. The Spartans and ninth-ranked Lobos will square off on Sunday, October 29, at 1:00 p.m. at Spartan Stadium.

BENT NETS FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL

El Shaddai Bent scored his first collegiate goal and the game-winning goal in overtime on Sunday, October 15, to beat Air Force. Bent led the Spartans with two shots on goal, and was one of three players with three shots in the contest.

MANN ENTERS EXCLUSIVE COMPANY

With his fourth shutout of the season against Air Force on October 15, goalkeeper Richard Mann is now on the school’s all-time shutouts list with eight. Mann moves into a tie for ninth place with eight career shutouts. The career record for shutouts is 18, which is held by two players, including head coach Gary St. Clair.

Player to Watch:
Sophomore midfielder Nicholas Paterson. Paterson leads the Rebels in scoring with nine points on two goals and five assists. He also leads the squad with 31 shots.

Head Coach Mario Sanchez:
Sanchez is in his first season as head coach of the Rebels.

Last Meeting:
The Spartans defeated UNLV 2-1 on October 8, as Hiroki Akiyama scored the unassisted game-winner at the 72:51 mark.

NEW MEXICO

About New Mexico:
The Lobos enter this week ranked #9 in the country with a 5-1 record in MPSF play, and 10-3-2 record overall.

Player to Watch:
Sophomore midfielder Chris Wright. He leads the Lobos with four goals and two assists.

Head Coach Jeremy Fishbein:
Fishbein is in his fifth season as head coach of the Lobos.

Last Meeting:
The Lobos got a goal in each half to defeat the Spartans, 2-0, on October 6.
