SCOUTING HOUSTON BAPTIST
The Huskies, in their first season in the MPSF, are 4-7-2 overall, 2-3-2 and in fourth place in the Mountain Division of the MPSF.  Last week they fell to CSU Bakersfield 4-1 on Friday, but beat UNLV by the same score on Sunday.  Houston Baptist playes at Seattle U on Friday prior to the match against the Spartans on Sunday.  The Huskies are 0-4-1 on the road this year.

Christian Cruz, a sophomore forward, leads Houston Baptist with five goals.  Junior forward Kristopher Tyrpak has scored four goals and assisted on four others.  Thilo Borgmann and Zach Pierce, a pair of midfielders, have each found the back of the net three times.

ALL-TIME SERIES
San Jose State and New Mexico have met 25 times since 1968 with the Lobos holding a 16-8-1 advantage in the series.  In matches contested in San Jose, the Spartans have a 3-6-1 record against New Mexico.  Their last home win against the Lobos, 1-0 in 2008, was also the last time the Spartans defeated UNM.

The Spartans and Huskies have met only twice, both times in 2009 and split the series.  San Jose State lost to HBU 0-1 at the OSU/Nike Challenge in Corvallis, Ore. early that year, but came back to defeat them 2-0 in Houston later that season.

MAKING THE MOST OF THEIR OPPORTUNITIES
The Spartans have taken the fewest shots (149) of any team in the MSPF, but have scored 22 goals in those attempts. San Jose State has converted a goal every 6.77 times they have pulled the trigger.  That is slightly better than Friday's opponent New Mexico, the next closest MPSF team in this category.  The Lobos have taken 261 shots and scored 38 goals which is a goal for every 6.86 shots they attempt.

LAST TIME(S) OUT
The Spartans, unbeaten in road conference matches entering last week, lost their first two of the year being swept, 0-4 at Denver and 1-3 at Air Force.

In Denver (10/19), the Spartans managed just four shots, as the offense struggled for the second road match in a row.  (SJSU defeated UNLV 2-1 in their last road game on just four shots.)  Denver scored early.  They put two goals in net in each half and handed the Spartans their first MPSF road loss of the season.

At Air Force (10/21), the sides played to a 0-0 tie throught the first 45 mintes, but under pressure from the Falcons, San Jose State gave up three goals in the second half before Kyler McLaughlin found the back of the net in the 87th minute for his first collegiate goal.  Frankie Beauchamp was credited with an assist on the play.
