Men's soccer edged by Air Force, 1-0

Colorado Springs, Colo. - Five Spartans took at least three shots and Richard Mann made seven saves, but a stingy Air Force defense held off a furious San Jose State rally and hung on for a 1-0 defeat of the Spartans in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Sunday, October 22.

Ed Brand, Diego Soto, Hiroki Akiyama, Edward Murillo-Jimenez and Julio Gonzalez all had three shots for the Spartans.

The Spartans outshot the Falcons 19-13 in the match, but Falcon goalkeeper Paul Elsbernd stopped both of SJSU's shots on goal to preserve the shutout.

Air Force scored the deciding goal at the 61:36 mark on a header by Reid Gaiser, which came off a corner kick.

San Jose State also led in corner kicks, with nine to the Falcons' five in the contest.

The Spartans will resume action on Thursday, October 26, when they will host UNLV. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Spartan Field. Admission is free of charge.
