Nelson Diaz Named to College Soccer News National Team of the Week

Tallahassee, FL---Spartan senior forward Nelson Diaz has been named to College Soccer News’ National Team of the Week for the week of Oct. 16. The announcement was made on the website Sunday, Oct. 16.

Diaz scored the first goal for the Spartans (7-3-2, 3-0-0) as they came from two goals down to defeat UNLV in overtime on the road. He also scored the game-winning goal to help San Jose State upset No. 2 New Mexico 3-2 in Albuquerque, also in overtime. Diaz now leads the team with 13 points, including six goals and one assist.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had a team that improved more over a season than this one,” Spartan head coach Gary St. Clair said. “Nelson is one of the guys that has stepped up, shown a lot of heart, and come on this year, even in situations when they could’ve given up.”
