Cal State Northridge stops men's soccer unbeaten streak with 5-0 win

Northridge, Calif.-----Five second-half goals in the final 29 minutes of play abruptly ended San Jose State University’s five-game unbeaten streak as #24-ranked Cal State Northridge defeated the #19-ranked Spartans, 5-0, in a non-conference men’s soccer match.

The Matadors (6-1-2) converted two penalty kicks, scored their first two goals 2:10 apart and tallied goals three and four in a 49-second span later in the second half. Five different Cal State Northridge players scored goals. Yossi Raz, who scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick, and Alec de Mattos each scored their third goals of the season.

San Jose State (6-2-2) had won four and tied one before losing its first game in a month. The Spartans, who had allowed only seven goals in their first nine games, had not given up five goals in a game since losing to USF, 5-2, in the 2001 season. San Jose State was outshot, 20-14. Cal State Northridge goalkeeper Radamas Lafaurie was credited with five saves. San Jose State’s Eddie Dominguez made three saves.

The Spartans conclude a two-game Southern California road trip at #15-ranked Loyola Marymount, Sunday, October 12.
