Men's soccer loses 4-3 in overtime to CS Sacramento

Sacramento, Calif. ------Ryan Rhoads and Ricky Rodriguez each scored twice as CS Sacramento defeated San Jose State University, 4-3 in overtime of a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's soccer game.

The loss kept the Spartans (1-8-1, 0-3 MPSF) winless in their last eight matches.

Rhoads notched the game-winner past San Jose State goalkeeper Brent Douglas in the 94th minute of play. Rodriguez, who sent the game into overtime with a penalty kick conversion in the 82nd minute, was credited with the assist.

The Spartans had three one-goal leads during regulation play as Tim McKinney and Johnny Gonzalez scored in the first half and Richard Halvorsen found the back of the net in the second half.

The Hornets' two offensive stars in the game alternated goals with Rodriguez, who assisted on both Rhods' goals, scoring in each half of regulation play. Rhoads' first goal, which tied the game at 2-2, came in the 49th minute.

CS Sacramento (2-6-1, 1-2 MPSF) won its first conference match of the season.
