Sweeney Named MPSF Player of the Week

Woodland, Calif. Junior goalkeeper Lewis Sweeney was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation’s Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday. Sweeney’s stellar performance in goal earned the Spartans two shutout victories last week and helped to snap the team’s three-game losing streak.

With Sweeney in goal, San Jose State defeated the Roadrunners of Cal State Bakersfield, 2-0, and the Cougars of the College of Charleston, 4-0. Sweeney made 12 saves over two games and faced a total of 34 shots. The two wins were the first of the goalkeeper’s career as a Spartan.

This is the second weekly MPSF award for San Jose State. Sophomore Nick Cukar earned the first award in the first week of play.
