Wenyon Named To CSN National Team of the Week

San Jose, Calif. San Jose State University men’s soccer junior Gavin Wenyon was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for the week ending Sept. 30. Wenyon’s determined defensive efforts this week earned the Spartans two shutout victories. San Jose State defeated Cal State Bakersfield 2-0 and the College of Charleston 4-0 to improve its record to 5-4-0.

In the Spartans’ 4-0 win over the Cougars, Wenyon made two incredible saves in goal to help San Jose State preserve its shutout. In the midst of an assault on the Spartans’ goal by C of C, Wenyon stepped in to assist goalie Lewis Sweeney and made two consecutive saves.

Over two games, Wenyon helped to stop 34 shots taken by the opponents. This season’s defense has already posted more shutouts in the first nine games of the season than it did in all of 2006.

Wenyon and the Spartans open conference play this week with Sacramento State on Sunday, Oct. 7.
