"We played well, and had some chances that we should have put away. We played hard to the end," Mann said. "We just have to keep working hard. Our performance showed that we moved on (from consecutive losses last weekend). We came together as a team, and had a lot better heart to the end.”
The first goal was scored by the Broncos’ Ryan Wolfe on a shot into the left corner at 32:13. Ted Kristensson was credited with the assist. Keith Devey scored his sixth goal of the season at 69:33 with assists from Jeff Scott and Jide Ogunbiyi.
The Spartans only trailed the Broncos by two shots, 17-15, but still did not capitalize.
“I’m disappointed for my players, because they played very well,” said Spartan head coach Gary St. Clair. “It was a game which all of us in the locker room felt we should have won. We just had a couple of lapses in concentration, and against good teams, that usually haunts you. But I’m very, very pleased with our performance. We faced a very good team tonight, and we showed that we could possess the ball. We just were not good enough in a couple of spots, and that’s all. I give the players a lot of credit.”
The Spartans now trail nine points to zero in the Rivalry Series with Santa Clara, after losing three games to none in women’s volleyball Tuesday, Sept. 28 and losing 2-1 in women’s soccer Wednesday, Sept. 28.
The Spartans take on Notre Dame de Namur Tuesday, Oct. 4 at Spartan Field. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m.
