Men's soccer rolls past Sacramento State, 6-1

San Jose, Calif.-----Randy Poggio scored twice and Tim McKinney had three assists as San Jose State University defeated Sacramento State, 6-1, in the Mountain Pacific Soccer Federation opener for both teams.

Poggio tied the game at 1-1 when he converted a penalty kick at 22:53. His goal at 53:02 off a McKinney head pass gave the Spartans (4-1-1, 1-0 MPSF) a 3-1 lead. McKinney also assisted on Johnny Gonzalez’s eventual game-winning score at 29:27 and Eric Rodriguez’s third goal of the season at 78:35.

Sacramento State (2-5-1, 0-1 MPSF) opened the scoring at 15:56 when Sam Sneed converted a rebound in front of the San Jose State net into a goal.

The Spartans dominated play, out-shooting the Hornets, 24-8.

San Jose State returns to action Sunday, September 28 when it hosts Cal Poly in a 1:00 p.m. game at the Spartan Soccer Field.
