San Luis Obispo, Calif. – The San Jose State men’s soccer team battled Cal Poly to a 0-0 final in double overtime in a non-conference match Saturday night at Mustang Stadium.

The Spartans (1-5-1) played more than half the game one player short after Daniel Perez picked up his second yellow card of the contest.

"I'm disappointed we didn't get a win even playing with 10 guys because we played very well. It was a very good team effort," said San Jose State head coach Gary St. Clair.

San Jose State was outshot 28-16 by Cal Poly. The Spartans' head coach felt Johnny Gonzalez and Eric Rodriguez had the team's best scoring opportunities in the first half.

"The real stalwarts were defenders Rich Halvorsen, Dylan Pender and Chris Mackey. They were all huge. The first shutout (of the season) was well deserved," added St. Clair. "These three are really the foundation of our team."

Goalie Daniel Benton made 14 saves for SJSU.

Following the tie, Cal Poly is 3-1-2.
