SJSU: In his third season with the Spartans. Frank Sanfilippo was named a preseason honorable mention All-American by Collegesoccer.com. 2000: Sanfilippo started all 22 matches for the Spartans last season. He scored four goals, including the game-winning goals in both games against Denver, and recorded four assists. He was a first-team MPSF all-Mountain Division selection and was named the team’s “Newcomer of the Year.” 1999: Sanfilippo played in one match during the 1999 season and did not record any offensive statistics.

HIGH SCHOOL: Sanfilippo was a four-year letterman in soccer and twice lettered in football at University High School in San Diego, Calif. He scored 29 goals and tallied 17 assists in his career. He was named the 1999 C.I.F. San Diego “Player of the Year” and was a four-time All-C.I.F. selection. Sanfilippo set a school record in football with eight pass interceptions in a season and was a 1998 first-team all-county defensive back.

PERSONAL: Francisco Sanfilippo was born on Sept. 8, 1981, in San Diego. His parents are Frank and Julie Sanfilippo. He has a sister, Marianna (22), and a brother, Dominic (14). He has not declared a major. He enjoys surfing and wakeboarding.
